Dobbs Ferry NY

This existing house on this lot had been neglected for years and divided into multiple apartments over the years. The new owners turned to us to return the house to a single-family home in the shingle style of the original home. The project entailed a complete gut renovation of the interior, a rear addition including the addition of multiple balconies to take in the view of the Hudson River below. The attic apartment was transformed into a primary bedroom suite. All fireplaces were restored and made operational. The extensive millwork throughout, including all kitchen cabinets, is all custom designed. An elevator was added to connect the four floors of this 6,500 square foot house. The exterior was completely re-clad down to the original studs with new sheathing and stained red cedar shingles on a state-of-the-art rainscreen system. A geothermal heating and cooling system was installed, including solar panels on the southern facing portion of the Vermont slate roof. A state of the art ‘smart house” system was installed including automated blinds and audio/ visual systems throughout. In the end the only vestige of the existing home and perhaps the inspiration for the restoration was the restored hard carved oak panel in the living room.
