Melanie and Adam purchased this dutch colonial house in Chappaqua with the desire to restore it to its original quality and make substantial alterations to meet their family’s needs. Previous owners had clad it in aluminum and left it largely in disrepair. We not only restored the original body of the house we made substantial improvements creating a superior example of dutch colonial architecture. At the rear of the house we designed a substantial addition which is sympathetic to this original character and scale of the original house. Melanie and Adam also felt that sustainable design strategies be utilized where ever possible. A geothermal system heats and cools the house. The house is super insulated with urethane foam insulation. All materials removed from the house during demolition were recycled. Rainwater runoff is gathered in dry wells and utilized for irrigation.
